Tiny Jitz is a Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu programme for children aged 3-8 years. It was developed by Nathan Jones, an experienced martial arts coach, qualified youth worker as well as an accomplished professional athlete.

Tiny Jitz aims to combine martial arts with learning, physical development, and, most importantly, fun!

So why a bear? Well, Jiu-Jitsu, a grappling based defensive system is often referred to as ‘the gentle art’. And this fits in with our bear; not only for being friendly and cuddly, but as bears are also seen to be protective, strong, and courageous just as we want to develop our children learning martial arts.

A strong and recurrent theme in our programme is respect; for ourselves and each other. Sessions are designed to cover 6 areas in Jiu-Jitsu and focus on 6 transferable skills needed for development.

Whether they start at 3 years or 8 years, train once a week or more, there is something for everyone. These sessions are designed to give an age- appropriate foundation to Brazilian jiu jitsu and to progress social and motor skills.

After achieving, children will move on to the junior programmes and continue their journey of development and Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu.

Whether we are learning, an attack or defence; or learning how to secure a position or to transition from one position to the next, each class will be based on one of these positions. The positions are on rotation throughout the term.

Knowledge of all of these will give solid foundation of Jiu Jitsu and will allow the Tiny Jitzers to earn their stripes and work toward their next belt.

Through a variety of games, tasks and conversations, sessions will focus on these transferable skills needed for development.

Respect being the foundation of all the sessions – respect for our learning, respect for ourselves and respect for each other.

Each session will have a skill to focus on and will be revisited on rotation.
